Gadsby’s Tavern: Drink With History

May 16, 2012 12:09 pm

Gadsby's Tavern has been in business since 1770, so they must be doing something right. With attentive service and an authentic old-school atmosphere, you can depend on Gadsby's to serve you hearty food without too much fuss. Be sure to make a reservation, as the space only holds a maximum of nine tables. Start out with some fried oysters or the hot Smithfield Ham biscuits with Mascarpone cheese and a lush raspberry puree spread. Customers swear by the perfectly prepared prime rib with whipped potatoes. The whiskey chicken with red beans is a testament to poultry perfection.

Restaurant Eve: Fine Dining in Alexandria

May 8, 2012 12:04 pm

Restaurant Eve in Alexandria is a place built on love. The husband and wife team behind Eve named their restaurant after their daughter, and the love for one another translates to the food. There’s not just one dining experience at Restaurant Eve – there’s three. Come to the Chef’s Tasting Room for a five, seven, or nine-course menu of seasonal creations that highlights local produce and changes with the growing season. Try the bistro lunch menu and speak to your waiter for the soup, salad, or sandwich of the day. Follow it up with the bartender’s lemonade, pressed to order. There’s the wonderful cheese and dessert menu that includes a selection of loose-leaf teas. You can also order lunch at the Lickety-Split Lounge, Mondays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
